Once an egotistical surgeon, Dr Stephen Strange, becomes earths Sorcerer Supreme after traveling the globe in an attempt to repair his damaged hands. Tutored by the “Ancient One” and equipped the Cloak of Levitation and the Eye of Agamotto, Strange protects the Earth against magical and mystical threats.
Marvel first introduced “The Astral Plane” in 1963. In “Strange Tales” #110, Dr Strange must defeat the villain Nightmare in the realm of dreams and slumber. With the creation of this other plane of existence, comic books ushered in a new type of hero. This dimension highlights mental stoicism and problem solving abilities. Inside, one can not lean on their might alone. Many super powered beings can not even access this realm and require someone like Dr Strange to help them get there and remain tethered to the outside world.
When you go to bed tonight and enter the reality of dreams and slumber, remember that Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme never sleeps.
